Well, What About Heaven? By Rev. Charity E. Sephus

Happy New year, my friends! Grace to you and peace from God our Father. We give thanks to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, always praying for you since you read this column with hope in Christ Jesus and love which you have for his Word. We sing, Oh! Heaven, I know heaven is mine! We sing, “When we all get to heaven what a day of rejoicing it will be” and many other songs of heavenly expectation.

When we LIVE BY FAITH, a question comes to us as we remember Calvary, and that is “WHAT ABOUT HEAVEN”? Our hope is kindled by studying the Bible. Having a personal Savior gives comfort within which is unavailable for outward discrimination. The peace in our hearts was not given by the world; it is heaven’s nonreversible allotment or implant. God knows all about our struggles because he suffered in a fleshly body like ours. He will guide us here on earth until he comes to take us to heaven, as he promised.

Heaven is a place of no tears or sorrow. It is a place where sickness is not known. There, joy is everlasting and it is the only place the righteous can call home. Jesus said, “Let not your heart be troubled. You believe in God, believe also in me. In my father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you and if I go, I will come again and receive you unto myself that where I am you may be also.” Heaven is not here on earth. In Matthew 6:19, we are admonished to lay up treasures in heaven, not on earth.

We want to know good things about eternity as God intended. There is a description of the hope that lies within us. Revelations 21-22 describes the city John saw. It has a wall, foundation stones, gates of pearl, a street of gold, a river, a tree of life, and the throne of God. Nothing on earth compares. It is ethereal, (delicate, exquisite, spiritual, beautiful) but not a dream where inhabitants are vaporous spirits. God promised everlasting life.

Jesus was caught up and a cloud received and carried him away into heaven. Acts 1:10-11, that’s where he is in physical body sitting at the right hand of the Father making intercessions for us. When He returns, He will (impartially transform the bodies all believers who remain), and take us to the eternal home he has prepared.

Listen, my friends; anyone can search the scriptures. The bible has survived all attempts to destroy it. Historians and scientists have attacks on the bible, but subsequently, great God Almighty created the world and them. God was, is and is to come. The kingdom, power, and glory are His forever.

The Lord takes pleasure in those who hope in his steadfast love. Proverbs 10: 28 The hope of the righteous brings joy.”
