Spring 2022: Finish Strong By Latasha Schraeder

Believe it or not, we are beginning the final stretch of the academic year! I encourage you and your children to stay the course. Set goals for the final weeks. Although we are still recovering from academic skills lost during pandemic-related school closures, be sure to set realistic goals.

Now is the time for statewide assessments. In Illinois, students in grades three through eight take the Illinois Assessment of Readiness. Your children’s scores may not be what they have been historically. Do not get discouraged. Remember, these assessments are just a snapshot in time. Assessments are just one piece of many pieces of data used to measure each student’s academic growth.

Before summer begins, scheduling a meeting to discuss progress during the 2021-2022school year is very important. You will then be able to share your specific concerns, if any, at the beginning of next year. This will allow your children’s needs to be met immediately when school begins. Time is of the essence.

Due to COVID-19, the federal government is again providing funding for summer enrichment programs to boost academic achievement through additional exposure and access to the learning environment. Take advantage of this resource. This opportunity is a bridge to the 2022-2023 school year.
