PSALM 27:4 BEHOLD THE BEAUTY OF THE LORD By Evangelist Charity E. Sephus

Beauty is God’s penmanship, which makes us alive to the compassion of a caregiver and the purity of a newborn.

sephusHis pen reminds us to pay attention to flowers in their entire splendor from the seed to the blossom, and stars that light the skies at night, keeping us from fear. “One thing I ask of the Lord is that I may dwell in the house of the Lord forever just looking upon his beauty”. Every heart yearns to behold the beauty of the Lord’s penmanship. We all use the expression “I need to get away!” We could say instead, “I need to pray”. Prayer takes us to a beautiful garden where our Savior welcomes us with delightful solitude.

Prayer leads to the hill that overlooks the ocean, or a place where cool gales fan the glades. Then on a very hot afternoon, as you sit under the trees, they crowd into a cooling shade. At times, we call His beauty a trip to the beach, a picnic in the park, a concert at the amphitheater, or dinner by candlelight. Quiet time with people we love, generates warmth and security often described as beautiful. If you see rain on one side of the street and sun shining on the opposite side, or here in C/S you can sit in the sun and look up at snow on the mountain tops, call it God’s penmanship (THE BEAUTY OF THE LORD). I often smile at visible and audible beauty, knowing that God is near. When beautiful things happen to me, I feel triumphant and inspired. How does the Beauty of the Lord affect you?

Creation shows His mighty power and His beauty blooms like a flower. Admiration soars, as occasional hints of His infinity keeps my soul alert with noble contentment. Our present and ongoing yearning for a better life sparks determination to make a choice for the Beauty of the Lord. Anyone can render evil for evil but that’s not God’s beauty. If you have known ugliness, sorrow, and sadness, it will motivate you to pray for the beauty of the Lord. Anyone who hungers and thirsts for beauty will have it. There is no comprehension of His majesty; here on earth, we get only a glimpse. Each experience of His greatness is an attention getter. Life would be brutish if we never experienced clear hopes of a wider scope. In this world of confusion, we all long for the beautiful place where we belong; and as God intended before the fall of Adam.

When we die out to sin, and are resurrected into the beauty of the Lord, even then, we get only a glimpse of his majesty, but we have noble contentment by knowing God is real. His beauty is the favor that ties all things of heaven to earth humbly and compassionately to reconcile sinners to his beauty. Adam and eve sinfully ignored the beauty from the beginning, but God did not punish us for their disobedience without a way to regain his favor. In our hearts, pure longings, answer to the splendor of God with needs to be reconnected to his heavenly favor. We want to experience something magnificent and supernatural, which is the spirit of the Holy Ghost who ushers us into his presence.

Even the birds charm our songwriters as they lift music from the air to put it on paper for all to hear. Billowing waves splash out a rhythm by God’s splendor. If we listen carefully right now, we can pull notes from the air or hum the tune of the heavenly and oceanic waters. To have injuries healed and broken hearts mended is to understand the splendor and the strength of the ties holding heaven and earth where they belong. I just thought of what it would be like if the sun did not come up in the morning or the clouds gave no rain to the oceans! God’s Beauty postures heavenly and earthly things thereby making us free from worry. He does all things well.

We long to be reconciled to God, so Jesus was the cord of love to give back our legal heritage. “Now we have this ministry of reconciliation” with faithful testimonies of the Beauty of the Lord. The full circle of His life, (from heaven to earth, to the cross, grave, then back to heaven) was like a very expensive, exasperating, yet productive missionary trip. The night beauty utters wisdom and heavenly sunshine floods our souls. Our deep inhalation is his pure resuscitation, the warmth of our heartbeat manifests a pleasing and impressive feeling of security. Lord, Our Lord, how excellent is your Beauty in all the earth, our hearts, and deeds.

How do you define beauty? We can call it truth, an expression of an idea, harmony in diversity, an intrinsic quality of things and so forth but while definitions vary, there is no real doubt of beauty. A formula cannot contain or explain how our hearts skip a beat when God smiles upon us. Sometimes I shiver on the hottest day of summer. It feels so good; like a massage from heaven. The beauty of the Lord in some form is always present. Sometimes, it is in a jubilant worship service, or another time silently in His presence we see and feel His beauty. We’re alive to the beauty of God’s, reconciliation, penmanship, and breath of heaven.
