Positive Empowerment for People July 2015

There’s a lot you can experience in Peoria—don’t sit at home complaining there’s nothing to do! Get out and enjoy your city!

  1. Drive go-karts or play miniature golf at Kartville with your family (919 Swords Ave 676-3628). It’s a great place to have a birthday party!
  2. Go to any Peoria Public Library (I love Lincoln library’s layout!) and take advantage of their reading materials, DVDs, CDs, and even their new site where you can browse music and more for free. Remember: Reading is Power!
  3. Attend vacation bible school! New Life Christian Church’s VBS is for the whole family during July 15-18 at 6 p.m. (2018 W. Kellogg Ave) in W. Peoria. This year’s theme is “Praise Break!”
  4. Work out with Debracca Hangen on Thursdays 5:30-6:15 p.m. for $2 at Proctor Recreation Center (309 S. DuSable 673-9183) where she’ll have you toning & splashing during Aqua Zumba.
  5. Find the budding artist in you and participate in inexpensive art projects at the Art Garage (712 W. Main St.
  6. Pamper yourself and schedule your next hair or nail appointment at Everlasting Images (6820 N. Frostwood Parkway; contact Breona at 309-868-3922). Tell them Katherine referred you—you won’t be disappointed.
  7. Empower yourself & take swimming lessons through the Peoria Park District ( I have had great experience from patient teachers at the Riverplex.
  8. Listen to live music and eat good food at Rhythm Kitchen (
  9. Support local businesses and shop at the Farmer’s Markets: Peoria Riverfront (Saturdays 8-1); Metro Centre (Saturdays 8-2), and Junction City (Wednesdays 3:30-7 p.m. & Saturdays 8-1).
  10. Love fashionable nail designs? Schedule a nail party with Recy Page, an Independent Jamberry Consultant (
  11. Enjoy a yummy treat from some great local businesses: Dudley’s at 2624 N Sheridan (I love their lemon ice cream!); Triple Dipple’s has delicious cheesecakes ( / 309-340-9540); and if you’re in the mood for a cupcake or two, order some from Cupcake Diva’s (309-657-7609).
  12. Pay it Forward and bless someone with a small gesture of kindness: you never know just how little things can make someone’s day.
