Peoria Historical Society announces 20th Season of Trolley Tours

Peoria Historical Society logo-480The Peoria Historical Society is celebrating its 20th season of Historic Trolley Tours by offering six different tours scheduled from June through the end of October. The tours, which kick off on June 4, give visitors a unique opportunity to sit back and relax on an old-fashioned trolley while they discover the fascinating history of Peoria.

trolley- Peoria Historical-480Each Historic Trolley Tour focuses on a different aspect of Peoria’s history including how Peoria came to be settled, why the distilling industry flourished here and how Peoria went from naughty to nice. Others take visitors back in time as they tour beautiful, park‐like Springdale Cemetery and learn just why Abraham Lincoln was such a frequent visitor to Peoria. Towards fall, the tours take visitors to locations where ghostly appearances have intrigued and puzzled Peorians over the years.

Each tour, which lasts approximately 1‐½ hours, is led by a Peoria Historical Society‐trained and certified guide. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at Harp & Thistle (688‐5668 – Thursday and Friday tours) and Kelleher’s (673-6000 – Saturday tours). Guests under the age of 65 pay an additional trolley fee of $1. Seniors 65 and older can ride the trolley for free with proof of age and a regular ticket purchase.

For schedules and dates, visit or call (309) 674-1921. Seating is limited so reservations are recommended. Private Historic Tours are also available, along with Historic Home Tours, through the Historical Society. Contact the Historical Society for more information.
