One more river to cross…Joshua 1:11

By Mae Catherine Godhigh

catherineAfter 62 years of waiting, the moment for “crossing over” was at hand for the congregants of the Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ has arrived. As it is written…Go through the camp and tell the people, Get your provisions ready. Three days from now you will cross the Jordan here to go in and take possession of the land the Lord your God is giving you for own…

On Friday, September 18, 2015, a full house anxiously awaited the appearance of the 10th Presiding Prelate of the Pentecostal Assembles of the World, Inc. The Honorable Charles H. Ellis, III from Greater Grace Temple in Detroit, Michigan was this year’s convention keynote speaker. The PCJC Praise/Worship team along with the Central Illinois Mass Choir raised the praise. Their combined music ministry saturated the atmosphere. This year’s convention was one of a historical nature as this was the first time a presiding prelate had ever visited the church.

In true to nature apostolic fashion, Bishop Ellis challenged the Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ, Inc. to maintain its rich apostolic history. His message was one of endurance and expectation. Under Bishop Ellis’ leadership Greater Grace Temple now has over 300 ministries including the following, which extend beyond its religious mandate: Over 100 Housing Units for seniors and families, 2 Charter Schools (Grades K- 8), Montessori Day Care Center, Print Shop, Television & Recording Studios, Travel Agency and Funeral Home. Bishop Ellis brings the message of God’s love to a potential 50 million viewers across the nation on “The Word Network” and other TV and radio outlets.

Later, members and guests enjoyed a book signing, a selfie-shoot along and a bistro style reception with Bishop Ellis.

On Saturday, September 19, 2015, at 8:00 am, approximately 40 prayer warriors met on the Peoria Riverfront to pray for social, educational, political, moral and economic issues that plague our city and nation. This year’s Prayer Walk was coordinated by Marcia Bolden and Shirley Farmer. Prayer Generals were assigned strategic targets to pray about. As the prayer warriors walked and quietly prayed, the power of prayer was manifested and God was glorified.

On Sunday, September 20, 2015, the church was graced by guest speaker, the Honorable Bishop George Dawson from Sugarland, Texas. Bishop Dawson delivered the ecclesiastical message and the church experienced a phenomenal move of God. Church members and guests literally abandoned their pews and lined up behind the First Family. As the congregants and visitors walked in succession, pressing the backs of church leaders, the church was thrusted forward into its destiny. Thus fulfilling scripture and recapturing the historic moments of the children of Israel at the River Jordan. Festivities climaxed with an appreciation service for Pastor Henry L. Bolden and First Lady Marcia J. Bolden. Special presentations from the PCJC Executive Church Board and Church Family were extended to the pastor and wife. Grace Apostolic Assembly Choir provided the ministry of music and their anointing bought the house down!

Finally, I wish to extend congratulations to the “Mother Church” and I wish you another 62 years of prosperity and continued support to our community.

Special thanks to the following Pastors and spouses who took the time out of their busy schedules to join in the festivities and to share their love.
