It’s The Most Wonderful Time of the Year….Holiday Party Planning

This is one of my favorite times of the year, holiday party planning. Before you attempt to have everyone over let’s make a quick checklist.

  1. How much are we going to spend? Yes, you need to establish a budget; food and décor will cost an arm and leg. Now, I have lavish taste, but I know how to minimize cost and still have an elegant, casual or family party. Try not to over spend as this will cause less stress on you during the holidays.
  1. Do you have a venue or can you entertain at home? What types of decorations are needed? You need to set the tone of your party from formal, informal or casual. As I have mentioned before use Oriental Trading to eliminate cost or use Pinterest for the DIY décor ideas.
  1. Send Evites, Invites, or use social media and set up an event and note if it’s adults only or if children can attend.
  1. Establish your timeline to get things done. Give yourself at least (4) weeks to plan. If you need assistance recruit some party helpers to save you some time.
  1. Add the following items to your timeline and planning:
  • Coat Racks or Rent them
  • Stem Ware
  • Dishes
  • Centerpiece
  • Tables – Round, Oblong or Bistro
  • Menu –for Buffet or sit-down dinner
  • Dessert
  • Beverages ( Wine, Beer, Champagne, Specialty and Non-Alcoholic Beverages)
  • Bartender or Self Serve
  • Music/Karaoke

The main thing to keep in mind is that everyone enjoys themselves, and your home or venue looks warm and festive. Place food around the room using food stations to encourage your guest to mingle while at the dessert bar or cheese and veggie station. If all else fails, hire a party planner or caterer to help you out. Happy Planning and Happy Holidays to you all. Follow us for more tips and information on Twitter @impress_divasol or on Facebook at
