IN MEMORIAM By Mark Hollis

As 2017 ends, we respectfully acknowledge a few notable athletes we lost this year.

November 27th, Terry Glenn, NFL wide receiver was killed in an automobile accident in Dallas, Texas. He was 43 years old.

November 19th, Jana Novotna, Wimbledon Women’s Tennis Champion, died after battling cancer. She was 49 years old.

November 18th, Pancho Segura, a Hall of Fame Tennis Player, died from complications related to Parkinson Disease. He was 96 years old.

November 17th, J.C. Caroline, NFL running back who played for the Chicago Bears, died of natural causes at the age of 84.

November 16th, Fergie Pacheco, Cornerman for Muhammad Ali and who later became a boxing analyst for Showtime, died of natural causes. He was 89 years old.

October 8th, Y.A. Tittle, Hall of Fame NFL quarterback, suffered from severe dementia and died of natural causes. He was 90 years old.

October 6th, Connie Hawkins, NBA Hall of Fame basketball player and originator of the “Finger Roll”, died from an undisclosed illness at the age of 75.

September 19th, Jake La Motta, World Middleweight Champion in boxing and subject of the movie “Raging Bull”, died from pneumonia. He was 95 years old.

September 19th, Bernie Casey, former NFL wide receiver, professional actor, poet and painter, passed away at the age of 78 from a brief undisclosed illness. He was in several movies including; Boxcar Bertha, Revenge of the Nerds, and Cleopatra Jones.

August 7th, Don Baylor, former Major League baseball player and manager for several MLB teams, died from multiple myeloma. He was 68 years old.

May 23rd, Cotez Kennedy, former NFL defensive lineman and Hall of Fame inductee, died from apparent Heart failure at the age of 48.

April 19th, Aaron Hernandez, former NFL tight end with the New England Patriots that was accused and convicted of murder, died from an apparent suicide at the age of 27.

April 13th, Dan Rooney, owner of the Pittsburg Steelers and Hall of Fame inductee, died from an undisclosed illness. He was 84 years old.
