ILBCC Host Its Annual Legislative Day for Illinois Black Businesses

ILBCC Annual Lobby Day Brings Together Business Owners and Politicians to lobby on behalf of Black Businesses in Illinois

On Wednesday, April 15, 2015, The Illinois Black Chamber of Commerce (ILBCC), the largest black trade organization in Illinois held its Annual Lobby Day event in Springfield, Illinois. The ILBCC is a strong advocate for entrepreneurship serving local and regional businesses in legislative advocacy, financial literacy, global entrepreneurship, with various business resources. This year’s event brought together legislators, corporate companies, black business owners and state agencies for an exciting day of networking, advocating and lobbying on behalf of black businesses.

Larry Ivory, President and CEO of The Illinois Black Chamber of Commerce and staff hosted the event. Business owners from around the state gathered at the Lincoln Statue at 10am for opening prayer lead by Apostle Wilson of Chicago, Illinois, followed by various remarks from Black Caucus members. Also in attendance was the Founder and Co-Founder of the National Black Chamber of Commerce Mr. Harry and Mrs. Kay Alford. Separated by groups, business owners went to pre-scheduled meetings with state Agencies and met with legislators until 4pm, ending the day with a meeting with newly Elected Honorable Governor Rauner at his office inside of the Capitol Building.

ilbcc 1After meeting with agencies and legislators, everyone met for an evening of networking during the reception held at Springfield’s Hilton Hotel. Several companies such as AT&T, Ameren, Nicor, Milhouse Engineering and Infrastructure Engineering spoke during the reception. Members of the black caucus also attended and spoke during the reception as well. Outstanding leadership Awards for their commitment and dedication to the African American community were given to Senator Jacqueline Collins and State Representative William Davis.

The highlight of this years’ reception was the announcement of the launching of the Illinois Black Political Action Committee. The Illinois Black Chamber of Commerce plans to spear head the initiative to raise funds to support politicians whose platform is in line with the values of the black chamber and black businesses.
