Horizons Club Expanding to Impact Students in All PSD 150 Middle Schools

Horizons Club, the Peoria Public Schools Foundation’s career exploration and mentoring program, is expanding this school year to all 14 PSD 150 middle schools. Piloted two years ago in three middle schools, the program will now impact more than 600 students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade each year. Horizons Club provides an environment where students can explore potential career opportunities by interacting with community mentors.

“This expansion will allow students to interact with a number of community leaders, who help provide a game changing point of view regarding the students’ future,” said Cindy Morris, foundation director.

The growth of Horizons Club is supported by generous donations of vital program resources from Running Central, Hy-Vee, Eureka Collage, McDonald’s, Culver’s of Peoria, and Costco. This extra support helps meet the increasing needs of students as they find their path to success in middle school, high school, and beyond.

All work of the Peoria Public Schools Foundation benefits and supports the students and teachers in District 150. Horizons Club is a lunchtime educational opportunity for middle school students. The intent of the program is for students to investigate various industries and educational opportunities, allowing them to make more informed educational choices. By working with community leaders who serve as mentors, the children are allowed to dream big and gain some of the tools they need to turn their dreams into a reality.
