HOPE Community Garden Created to Help Southside Residents Have Access to Fresh Fruits and Vegetables

Helping Our People Eat Community Garden was created in 2017 to help residents on the Southside have access to fresh vegetables and fruits. HOPE Community garden is a collaborative effort of three families that started gardening on acres in Spring Bay, IL.

The HOPE Garden is located on two vacant lots on the corner of Martin Street and Steubenville. Recently they hosted their first garden party “Meet Me on Martin Street”. Families that live in the community and individuals that grew up in the area were able to fellowship and enjoy some of the fresh vegetables grown and harvested.

Community gardens are collaborative projects on shared open spaces where participants share in the maintenance and products of the garden, including healthy and affordable fresh fruits and vegetables.
