Heritage Ensemble Celebrates Juneteenth On Saturday, June 18, 2016

The Journey from Slavery to Emancipation and Beyond through Song

On Saturday, June 18, 2016, at 7:30 pm at the Illinois Central College Performing Arts Center, the Heritage Ensemble will perform the 15th Annual Juneteenth Musical Concert. In a unique presentation, the Heritage Ensemble will tell a story of hope in the midst of humiliation, integrity in the midst of injustice, determination in the midst of degradation, and perseverance in the midst of seeming powerlessness.

The theme of the concert is “The Journey from Slavery to Emancipation and Beyond Through Song.” Through the music of this concert, the richness of the Negro spiritual and the melodic diversity of contemporary African-American based Broadway musicals will be performed. This Concert will appeal to individuals of all ages, races and ethnic backgrounds. The Youth Heritage Ensemble will perform very lively musical selections that will foster a contagious excitement.

Heritage Ensemble members as soloists, small groups, and in full ensemble performance will celebrate this Juneteenth recognition. Without leaving your seats, the Heritage Ensemble will tell a story that takes you on a musical journey; from a history of over four hundred years ago to a history that is continuing to be made.
