Gently Used Jeans Wanted

Teens4JeansPicThe Greater Peoria, Illinois Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated is collecting jeans for Teens for Jeans, a national campaign from DoSomething.org. Teens for Jeans encourages young people across the country to partner with local schools and businesses to have a jean drive to help provide jeans for children, youth and adults experiencing homelessness. The Greater Peoria, Illinois Chapter of Jack and Jill of America has partnered with Richwoods High School, Richwoods Student Council, Dunlap High School, the Dunlap Interact Club, Just Kidz Dentistry and multiple businesses in the community.

Over one million youth experience homelessness each year. One of the most requested items is jeans. They can be worn multiple times before needing to be washed. Jeans can also be dressed up for something like a job interview or dressed down for a day at work. Since 2008, over five million pairs of jeans have been collected through the Teens for Jeans campaign. On Friday, January 22nd, 2016, Carter Bell, president of the Greater Peoria, Illinois Teen Group, reported, “over 400 pairs of jeans have been collected to date, and our goal is to collect at least 1000 pairs of jeans”.

The Peoria Area community can support this effort by dropping off their gently used jeans to one of the locations listed below by Friday February 26th, 2016. In addition, there will be a jean drive at Preckshot Pharmacy (Junction City) on Saturday, February 13th, 2016 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Jeans can be dropped off during that time.
