City of Peoria Launches 2015 Budget Challenge from April 6 until May 10

Peoria – (04/06/2015) The City of Peoria is launching the 2015 Online Budget Challenge, an interactive tool that invites residents and business owners to experience the type of policy choices involved in balancing the city’s budget. The Budget Challenge can be taken at from April 6 until May 10.

The Budget Challenge will empower residents to decide how they would best allocate dollars across city services. Participants will begin with the current deficit amount and that amount will increase or decrease, depending on their spending choices. The goal of each participant will be to balance the budget.

The city will also host weekly budget discussions, highlighting different departments, over the next five weeks. Each presentation will include an overview of the budget, followed by a department-specific presentation. Residents are encouraged to attend all sessions and also participate online. Residents without internet access may utilize computers at any of the Peoria Public Library locations to take the challenge. Paper comment cards will be also available at each budget meeting. Feedback from the meetings and results of the online challenge will be presented to the City Council in preparation of their upcoming budget planning sessions.

All meetings will begin at 6 p.m. The first of these sessions, held on April 9, will be at Bradley University’s Renaissance Coliseum in the Braves Club. The Braves Club is located on the second floor of the building and free parking is available in the adjacent deck on the Southwest Corner of Main Street and Maplewood.
