Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., is the oldest Greek Letter organization established by college trained and educated African-American women. The mission of the organization is to “cultivate and encourage high scholastic and ethical standards, and to be of service to all mankind.”The local chapter in Peoria has been in existence since 1980, and has awarded thousands of dollars in scholarships to college bound high school students from the Peoria area.

Since 2003, the Nu Pi Omega Chapter has been hosting the Little Miss Pink and Green Ball which provides premier mentoring, community service, etiquette, and fundraising for girls ages 10-14. The local chapter will hold life skills and self-improvement workshops. This year, the girls will continue the tradition of learning to waltz, will bond with other girls in an overnight slumber party, and a Day Trip to the St. Louis City Museum, all culminating in an elegant gala for the young ladies at the end of this 10 week program.

This year’s 2018 program is underway and the ball is scheduled for Saturday, September 15, 2018, 3 p.m. at the Grand Army Republic Hall located at 416 Hamilton Blvd. Tickets are $30 per person and are on sale now.
