The tips offered in this article can help you land an interview and your dream career.

FONT TYPES

The best font types to use include PT Sans, Cambria and PT Serif. These fonts are the easiest to use and the most readable through the Applicant Tracking System used by recruiters. Times New Roman is considered outdated by recruiters.

FONT COLORS

The best font colors to use include blue, red or orange. These colors will make your resume stand out more and catch the eye of a recruiter.

ACTION VERBS

Use action verbs such as “Described,” “Taught,” “Managed,” or “Developed” when describing your professional and/or teaching experience within your resume.

BOLD AND ITALICIZE TEXT

Bold and italicize text to draw out key points in your resume such as current and past job titles, numbers, percentages and/or quotes.

GRAMMAR AND SPELLING

A resume needs to be free of grammatical and spelling errors. Some of the best tools to use to ensure that your resume is grammatical and free of spelling errors include Grammarly.com and the Hemingway App. You should not use the spell check on Microsoft Word because it does not catch all the mistakes within your resume.

ONE TO TWO PAGE RESUMES

Your resume should be no more than two pages. If you have experience in different industries, it is recommended to create separate resumes for each industry worked in.
