The Tri-County (Peoria) Urban League Board of Directors is pleased to announce the selection of Dr. Dawn Harris Jeffries as the new President and CEO of the organization. The current president, Laraine Bryson, previously announced her retirement late last year.

Dr. Dawn Harris Jeffries comes to the Urban League with over 20 years of experience in finance, global wealth management, and strategy. Since 1998, she has held various leadership positions during her tenure with Merrill Lynch & CO. In addition, she is the founder and executive director of the Girls Light Our Way, NFP (GLOW) mentoring program in Central Illinois, developing curriculum and strategic relationships to execute activities-based, award-winning programming for girls in areas of wellness, self-efficacy, financial literacy, and social/cultural capital.

The Urban League President is responsible for daily agency operations in conjunction with the Board, staff, and volunteers, providing innovative leadership and vision to achieve the mission of advancing the regional economy and quality of life in central Illinois by promoting education and improving employability skills, self-sufficiency and social well-being of African Americans and people in need.

Since 1993, Mrs. Laraine Bryson has served as President of the Urban League and secured numerous grants over the years to support the programs focusing on education, employment, and counseling.
