Evelyn Serena Stafford turns 100 years old!

Mrs. Evelyn Serena Stafford turned one hundred years old on April 19, 2021. Mrs. Stafford’s husband of 79 years is Dr. James B. Stafford, Jr. She has two children, Sylvia V. Thompson and James B. Stafford, III, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Stafford is a long-time resident of Peoria, moving here with her family in 1954.

She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Illinois State University in 1942 and two Masters of Science degrees from Bradley University in 1957 and 1958. Her master’s degrees are in special education and speech therapy.

Mrs. Stafford worked for the State of Illinois for 36 years, retiring in 1986. She then began a career as a licensed real estate salesperson. She sold real estate for 11 years before retiring a second time. She has served on many committees and boards.

Mrs. Stafford’s place of worship, Mt. Zion Baptist Church, celebrated her birthday with a caravan of cars driving by her home as she sat in the driveway being showered with loving birthday well wishes and gifts. Her husband, daughter, son and his wife joined her in her birthday celebration.
