Sherry Gordon-Harris is a Certified Etiquette Consultant and CEO of Royal Purpose School of Etiquette LLC. Sherry has taught Etiquette for nearly 15 years as part of her Princess Pageants. Recently she expanded her services to assist not only young girls but also boys and adults. Royal Purpose School of Etiquette LLC offers classes in subjects such as Chivalry, Table Etiquette, Business Etiquette, Sitting and Walking Gracefully, Greeting and Communicating Effectively, Tea Party Etiquette, Increasing Self-Esteem and more.
This year’s Spring Tea took place Friday, April 2, 2021, at the Pettengill-Morron House in Peoria. This High Tea private fundraising event was sponsored by the Merry Mavens Sweet Nothings Committee chaired by Lisa Kerr-Bisbee. Attendees enjoyed many varieties of flavored teas, lemonade, crumpets, homemade scones, raspberry jam, mini strudels, pinwheel sandwiches and other scrumptious savories. Beautiful décor was made up of vibrant spring colors of flowers, dainty napkins, and elegant table coverings. The attending ladies participated in a game of trivia, charades, a parade of hats, and an overview of the Royal Purpose School of Etiquette LLC. In addition to Tea Etiquette Tips, each lady received a party favor, the pleasure of company with other wonderful ladies, and a lovely social on a Good Friday.
Significantly, this event was hosted at the Pettengill-Morron House, operated today as a historic house museum. This house is on the National Register of Historic Places and is owned by the Peoria Historical Society. This 11-room home has stories of abolitionists and the Underground Railroad, a famous actor married in the home and other stories of Peoria’s past, and a unique collection of mid-18th to mid-20th century furnishings, artwork, and artifacts. Several china cabinets were filled with many luxurious collections of fancy dinnerware, teacups, tea saucers, and teapots. It made the perfect setting for a Spring Tea.
Even more significantly, one of the last residents, Jean Morron, also taught Etiquette! She donated her time to teach Etiquette and crocheting at the Peoria Neighborhood House in the 1960s. Her room had a miniature tea set, a collection of hats, a book titled Etiquette, and a book titled What to Wear Where. Tours of the Pettengill-Morron House are given on Thursdays from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm and open houses.
Undoubtedly Sherry’s passion is educating children and adults about how to have a more refined way of living and purposeful life. Sherry encourages everyone to “Live your life with Purpose in a Royal Manner.”
