Comfort Ye My People By Rev. Charity E. Sephus

God heals the brokenhearted and bandages the wounds. Let us bless the Lord at all times with His praises in our mouths. I pray, telling myself this, “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name. Veil your face from my sin and blot out all my iniquity. Create in me a clean heart, God, renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence, and don’t take your holy spirit from me. Restore the joy of salvation and lift me with your free spirit. Lord, preserve my heart, mind, soul, and tongue. Now, God, comfort us in afflictions, as we believe, rehearse, and engraft your words into normal daily conversation and prayer. Amen.”

How can we comfort each other is a good question? With our mouths filled with praise! That’s the answer. It becomes habitual to share comfort with the comfort God gives us through scriptures which send sparks everywhere. Don’t put out my fire. I have to break off a piece for someone in despair. I won’t quench my spirit! That would be like death. God is alive in me. Right Here is the time to practice sharing comfort and keeping the sparks of God’s glory spreading.

Having finished His work on earth, Jesus now sits at the right hand of the throne of God, making intercessions for us; He is the support for the ministry of reconciliation, which we have inherited, and we will “Comfort God’s people.” We need a graceful poise with a sterling tenderness when offering comfort to others. We have the propensity to say, “I’m sorry for your loss,” which is only a thoughtless response. The same words, spoken tenderly, will bless. God’s grace stretches our hearts to help us offer compassion above dutiful words.

God has a perfect way to bless those who mourn: it is by using us to share our comfort with those who need it. When hard service is complete, our work was not in vain in the Lord. Now, God will give or has given from his own hand, double for all caring efforts.

In this wilderness-like era, the haughty, intrusive germ in the air shall become quiet as we pray, and the restricted places accessible again. May the glory of the Lord be revealed, and all people of God see it together. We will show kindness, speak gently, resonating rich love of God’s concern.

Rest in Jesus, the gentle-hearted, humble, illuminated Savior; with the light yoke, easy burden. Walk on fearlessly with the lamp unto your feet, unfailing love, comfort, our refuge for the oppressed, and one who listens.

May our covenant to help be ratified in heaven. With a record like God’s, we will never stop calling on Him, the stronghold of life. This troubled world is not the end of his story. Hold on, my friends: make a straight path for God into your heart.
