This 2020 King Holiday observance will mark the 34th year of the national holiday and the 91st birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The King Holiday Committee of Peoria Inc. announces the following activities on MONDAY, JANUARY 20, 2020:
DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. FREEDOM MARCH:
Assemble: 1:30 pm and Depart: 2:00 pm. Marchers will travel from the Romeo B. Garrett Cultural Center at Bradley University, 824 Duryea Place, to Bethel United Methodist Church, 210 N. Richard Pryor Place, Peoria.
DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. COMMEMORATIVE SERVICE & AWARDS CEREMONY WILL FOLLOW at 2:30 PM. Event held at Bethel United Methodist Church, Peoria.
The keynote speaker will be Yolanda Riley, Attorney at the law firm of Kavanagh, Scully, Sudow, White and Frederick. Ms. Riley focuses on family law, civil litigation, criminal defense and expungement/sealing cases. She is a former staff attorney at Prairie State Legal Services. A graduate of Manual High School and Illinois State University, she earned her law degree from Southern Illinois University School of Law, where she founded Women of Diversity. She is an active member of the diversity committee of the Peoria County Bar Association and former president of the Peoria chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU.)
MLK Leadership Awards will be presented following keynote address.
