The Alpha Fatherhood Breakfast was founded seven years ago under the leadership of Christopher Johnson, a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Peoria Alumni Chapter. The purpose of the breakfast is to give fathers, grandfathers, uncles, mentors, stepdads, etc. the opportunity to enjoy a good breakfast with their child and fellowship with other men with the same goals of seeing the children become successful people. It is also an opportunity to honor great male role models in the Peoria community. Several community leaders have been guest speakers at this event: Officer Dan Duncan, Derrick Booth, Dr. James Jeffries, Byron Shabaz, and Angel Cruz to name a few.

The Fatherhood Breakfast, held annually in October, has been hosted at Trewyn School for all seven years, under the watchful eye of Renee Andrews. It has been sponsored by the African Americans Police officers, Mama G’s catering, Bernice Gordon Young and It Takes a Village, Alpha Phi Alpha Peoria Alumni Chapter, Brewers Distributor and Peoria Public Schools. This year’s event was held on October 26th, and served over 125 men and students. The committee also honored Roosevelt Alexander, Dennis Warr, Doug Shaw, and Daniel Duncan with the Fatherhood Award for 2019. Several giveaways such as bikes, book bags school supplies, school uniforms are given to the students at this event as well.
