Alecia Collins to bring her debut novel, Don’t Judge Me, I’m Only Human to the Stage By Molly Crusen-Bishop

Alecia Collins

Alecia Collins will be bringing her debut novel, Don’t Judge Me, I’m Only Human to the stage at the Apollo Theater on October 11&12. Her book tells the story of her challenging youth here in Peoria, as the African American daughter of a single mom, and how she grows to become a successful businesswoman, writer, event planner, and now co-producer of her play.

Alecia uses her past to relate to other’s who come from economic challenges while growing up, and the obstacles and experiences that come from being raised in a single-parent household. She found herself learning as an adult, that focusing on and growing in her spirituality helped her find her authentic purpose as a woman. She expresses that she became once again what God had made her to be as she walked away from all of the negative things she found distracting in her life. “I want people to walk away from the play inspired and enlightened,” states Collins about her debut novel/ screenplay.

Her future goals are to take the play on the road and eventually make it into a movie. She also hopes to connect with individuals who face the same challenges she endured while growing up.

The play is directed by Tonya Nash with IGNITE Enterprise, with Alecia co-directing with her company Lady A Entertainment. Tickets are available @ EVENTBRITE.COM or 5th Avenue Fashion. Reserved seating is $40, and general admission is $30. An after-party celebration will be at Rumbergers. The doors open at 6 pm and the show will begin at 7pm.
