Ameren Illinois Energy Efficiency Internships Return By Angie Ostaszewski, Program Manager, Ameren Illinois

One mission of the Ameren Illinois Energy Efficiency Program is to bring new and diverse candidates into the energy efficiency industry. We want the energy workforce of the future to be as diverse as the communities we serve. One of the ways we do this is through our internship program.

In 2018, Ameren Illinois launched a new summer internship program, where we funded internship positions with contractors and non-profit organizations throughout the Ameren Illinois service territory. From May to August 2018, 14 interns learned about energy efficiency through real world experiences and career-building webinars. The interns’ work included learning the ropes with a HVAC contractor, developing strategies to help underserved communities reduce their energy usage, and leading research projects around energy justice. The best part? At the end of the summer, 13 of these interns were hired as full-time employees by their host organizations.

As we prepare for our 2nd year of internships, we are excited to partner with community organizations again to create dynamic, educational experiences and showcase the growing number of opportunities in the energy industry.
