When you need comfort and encouragement, the Word of God (The Holy Bible) is an excellent place to find yourself. Reading and meditating on the verses can bring you comfort in the midst of whatever curveball life throws at you. Job 5:11 (NKJV) states He sets on high those who are lowly, and those who mourn are lifted to safety. If you are hurting from the loss of a loved one you may find comfort in these words and scriptures mentioned.
Personally, I do not know how anyone can endure severe heartaches and suffering and retain their sanity without the peace and love of God carrying them through it all. Recently, I lost two family members as the result of a “heart attack/cardiac arrest. In addition, a dear friend and fellow church member survives a massive heart attack and remains in intensive care. The Word of God has sustained me/us through these darkest times of grief and continues to do so. I have prayed and longed for peace and comfort that passes all understanding (and yes, it DOES exist).
We must claim the promises that the Bible speaks of and lay our heavy hearts on the Shoulders of the Lord; for He is a “Specialized Healer.” Grief and sorrow can be consuming especially in the beginning as the “shock” is hard to deal with. But know this; God has a purpose for each and every one of us. I believe that the ones He has called home have fulfilled their purpose; and if you are still here, God yet has work for you to do.
While bad things do happen because we are in the world, even though we may not be of the world, God is still in control. We have to allow Him to show us how to work through our sorrow and grief and strive to carry on after our loss. Matthew 5:4 says, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” One may think, “How can you be blessed when your heart is broken?” You may have to brace yourself before you attempt to speak or utter a word about the situation; you can see the impact that it has on the people you are speaking to. In the 5th Verse of Matthew; it is simply saying that when you are hurting so badly, and you feel like you can’t go on, God will sustain you and carry you through these tough times. Hold on, for God’s word is most comforting in our times of sorrow.
