Airbnb or Hotel: Choose what is right for you By Ronda Guyton Travel Agency

Welcome to your monthly edition of travel talk with Ronda Guyton Travel Agency, Inc.

Have you ever considered booking with Innclusive (black owned), HomeAway or Airbnb? Most people choose these options for large families, couples trips or just want to get away in a private villa with a plunge pool. I appreciate the privacy that is offered with booking a home and the variety of homes available.

I have found for the three I have listed to have easy to navigate websites. My preference for ease of checkout, insurance or potential requests for refunds is HomeAway or Innclusive.

Things to consider when booking… Get insurance. There is a reason why states and banks require you to get auto insurance. They want to protect their investment and you should too. Life happens, and you never know if one of the kids decides to run and breaks a lamp. The owner of the home will require reimbursement. Read all of the fine print, do not just check the box “I understand and agree to the terms and conditions.” If you have questions, email or call the contact person of the property. Review the cancellation and refund policy and be sure to note the time frames for each.

One of the most important things you want to do is read the reviews. Keep in mind that some guests will not be satisfied no matter what. This will give you an idea of what to expect from the property and the property owner. You want attentive owners but not ones that will be sitting curbside videotaping your every move.

Bonus tip – Depending on the state/country there may not be a requirement to have and maintain a fire alarm or carbon monoxide detector in the residence. Ask the owner if they are present and operational. You can purchase a portable fire alarm and carbon monoxide detector on Amazon for around twenty dollars ($20). Safe travel my friends!
