Why do you need travel insurance?
You want to purchase travel insurance just like you purchase home insurance. You want to protect your investment. As we all know LIFE happens, so be prepared.
Generally, you will have three options to choose from with a maximum limit per person. You want to choose the coverage that includes the following but not limited to: trip cancellation, trip interruption, trip interruption-return air only, baggage & personal effects, baggage delay, accident sickness medical expense, dental, emergency evacuation & repatriation of remains, escort, preexisting medical condition exclusion waiver, trip cancellation due to financial default, car rental (if renting a car and you have not verified with your provider that you are covered (international)). Optional/additional insurance coverage will sometimes include cancel for any reason, flight guard, missed connection, hospital of choice, bedside visits (international travel is different than USA).
Always read the fine print and the exclusions. Regardless of the level of coverage you choose you should purchase the one that fits your needs. When you purchase through a 3rd party you run the risk of having minimum coverage, a difficult claims process and more exclusions than purchasing through a reputable agent that can assist you through the process.
