The Links, Incorporated, Central Illinois Chapter, Awards $15,000 In Scholarships

The Central Illinois Chapter of The Links, Incorporated awarded 15 scholarships to deserving area high school students at its 15th annual tea held April 22, 2017 at the Doubletree by Hilton Conference Center, Bloomington, Illinois.

The Links, Incorporated is one of the nation’s oldest and largest volunteer service organizations of extraordinary women of color who are committed to enriching and serving the needs of their communities. The Central Illinois Chapter’s annual tea serves as an award ceremony for the scholarship winners and a fundraiser for numerous public service and recognition programs. The theme of this year’s tea was “15 Years of Crystal Brilliance” and the keynote speaker was accomplished actress and entrepreneur Karan Kendrick who was featured in the Oscar nominated movie Hidden Figures delivered a well-received message of empowerment to an audience of nearly 400 attendees.

The day before the Tea, Ms. Kendrick made a stop in Peoria on Friday, April 21, to talk about her work in the box office hit, Hidden Figures. and deliver her message of empowerment.

The Peoria Riverfront Museum in partnership with The Central Illinois Chapter of The Links, Incorporated rolled out the red carpet for Karan Kendrick for a big screen showing of the movie Hidden Figures to over 400 local grade school students.

The Central Illinois Chapter of The Links, Incorporated annually contributes more than 3,000 documented hours of community service to Bloomington-Normal, Peoria, Decatur, Springfield, Champaign, and Charleston IL. During its 42 year history, The Central Illinois Chapter has delivered original, cultural and civic programming focused on Services to Youth, National Trends & Services, International Trends & Services, Health & Human Services, and The Arts.
