Nu Pi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated to Host Juneteenth: “Breaking the Chains of Slavery” on Friday June 16, 2017

The Ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Nu Pi Omega Chapter of Peoria, Illinois will host Juneteenth: “Breaking the Chains of Slavery”, on Friday June 16, 2017 from 6:00pm until 10:00pm at Bradley University‘s Hayden-Clark Alumni Center.

This event is their premier scholarship fundraising effort for area high school college bound students.

Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the end of slavery in the United States.

The featured speaker will be the local chapter’s very own member and iconic Civil Rights Activist Joyce Banks.

The celebration will also feature poetry, music, food and fun.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. is the oldest Greek-Letter organization established by African-American college-trained women. It currently has over 283,000 members throughout the United States, Africa, Asia, Europe, the Caribbean and the Middle East. The mission of the organization is to cultivate and encourage high scholastic and ethical standards, and to be of service to all mankind. The local chapter has been in existence since 1980.

Tickets for Juneteenth are $35.00 per person, or table for eight can be purchased for $280.00
