The Peoria NAACP has held elections for officers and the Executive Committee for 2017 – 2019. The new President will be Pastor Marvin Hightower who has been First Vice President for over four years. Attorney Donald R. Jackson who has been NAACP President for 24 years chose not to seek re-election, but will remain on the Executive Committee.
By unanimous vote the membership agreed to identify the NAACP Community Center for Donald R. Jackson and offer gratitude for his nearly quarter century of service as President of the Peoria NAACP. Mr. Jackson was also NAACP State Conference President for eleven years.
The other NAACP officers will be First Vice President David Pittman, Second Vice President Karen Wilson, Third Vice President Gene Petty, Treasurer Jean Polk and Secretary Ernestine Jackson. Assistant Treasurer will be Lorraine King. The Executive Committee members will be Laviene Birditt, Pearly Bonds, Sherry Cannon, Joyce Edwards, Mary Hooks, Don Jackson, Jackie Petty, Sam Petty, Sam Polk and Valerie Timmes.
About Pastor Marvin Hightower
Pastor Hightower was born and raised in Peoria and is the youngest son of the late Pastor Calvin and Marilyn Hightower of New Morning Star. He currently serves as Senior Pastor of Liberty Church of Peoria located at 2828 W. Flint St. He is a graduate of Peoria Public School District and World Harvest Bible College, now known as Valor Christian College located in Columbus, Ohio. He also serves as a Board Member of Upgrade Service Corp., Board Member of the Central Illinois Interfaith Alliance, member of The Peoria Area Diversity Employment Action Team (PADEAT), and on the Executive Committee for Alignment Peoria.
Pastor Hightower has been married to Loreece for 23 years and they have been blessed with two children.
