Triplets, Sedrick, Sterling and Spencer Jackson are three impressive young men who have worked diligently throughout their academic years to achieve their goals. The brothers graduated from Southern Illinois University Carbondale this past December 2015 with high honors. They are the hardworking sons of Annette and Steven Jackson. “I am so Godly proud of these three young men. They graduated at every level of advancement with honors starting with their 8th grade transition,” says Cheryl Ellis, Assistant Principal at Manual High School who was their former 8th grade principal at Trewyn Middle School. “They were/are focused, determined and inspired to do above average – not-the status quo,” she says.
Sedrick Jackson, a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., graduated with a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering and was among the top in his graduating class. He will be working for UTC Aerospace Systems in Rockford, Illinois as an Electrical Engineer. “I eventually want to own an engineering firm when I have enough experience,” he says.
Spencer Jackson, a four-year track athlete, graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s in Sports Administration. Spencer is currently pursuing a law degree from SIU Law School and will be using it to ultimately become a sports agent. He states, “I will do whatever it takes to follow my dreams. If pursuing a law degree will help me become a sports agent then that is what I will do.”
Sterling Jackson, a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering and a minor in Mathematics. Sterling will be working for G. Stephens Inc. as a Transportation Engineer in Akron, Ohio. Sterling says, “I honestly can see myself in a life of politics or working as a city engineer for the local government.”
Following is an Open Letter to Peoria, Illinois written by Sterling A. Jackson reflecting on their memories and accomplishments.
What a month for my brothers and I. It is truly amazing how blessed we are to have been able to fulfill the dreams that we have set out on the first day we set foot on Southern Illinois University’s campus. We celebrated our 23rd birthday to a resounding surprise celebration in our friend’s apartment on December 16, and three days later on December 19, we all walked across the stage to graduate. As we spend our last few weeks together before we all split up and go our separate ways, we could not help but to sit back and reminisce on all of the memorable times we had in college and all of the great people we have met.
As you can see we are all representing the great city of Peoria in the best way we can and would like to take this time to thank all of our family and friends who have helped us get to this position.
