InterBusiness Issues magazine announced Sonya Bolden as one of the 2015 class of 40 Leaders Under Forty. She was recognized as a community leader at the 22nd annual 40 Leaders Under Forty Awards Ceremony held on November 5th, at the Par-A-Dice Hotel.
On November 6, 2015, The Traveler Weekly, Simons Mortuary and the former business, Big John’s Barbeque were recognized and honored at the Celebrations of Achievement Gala by the Black Business Alliance Peoria Chapter, WPNV 106.3FM and the Minority Business Development Center in appreciation of their contributions to the economic empowerment of the African-American Community. The event was held at the Gateway Building in downtown Peoria.
Reverend Linda Butler received the ATHENA International Woman of the Year Award at the 40th Annual Community Thanksgiving Luncheon on November 19, 2015 at the Peoria Civic Center, sponsored by Midstate College. The annual award recognizes a person who has empowered women in leadership and professionalism through their personal and community involvement.
On December 5, 2015 Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Peoria Alumni Chapter honored Ryan J. Lowry as Alpha Man of the Year; Coach Wayne McClain, Community of Peoria Service Award; (Posthumously) and Michael E. Banks, Humanitarian Award (posthumously) at their Annual Black & Gold Gala held at Bradley University.
