“The Renaissance of Black Business” at the 10th Annual Illinois Black Chamber of Commerce Convention August 12-13th

ibcoc blueThe Illinois Black Chamber of Commerce is well known for its hard work to help build and support the thousands of black owned businesses throughout the state of Illinois and other regions within the Midwest. This year’s 10th Annual Convention will be held August 12-13, 2015 at the Par-A-Dice Hotel in East Peoria, Illinois. This dynamic event includes networking opportunities with some of the largest and best Black entrepreneurs in the state, top business and political leaders from around the world, industry procurement executives and policy-makers, as well as key decision makers who have a genuine interest in supporting the Illinois business community. Over 400 people will be in attendance.

The conference opens on Wednesday, August 12th with a Procurement Opportunity Fair for 100 select business owners to meet with over 20 companies and agencies’ procurement executives. “This will give businesses a chance to meet face-to-face with the decision makers and to identify real opportunities for their companies, “said Larry D. Ivory President/CEO of the Illinois Black Chamber of Commerce. The Fair will begin with opening comments from the Majority Leader of the Senate, Illinois State Senator James Clayborne who will talk about Getting Ready for the Opportunity followed by Cook County Commissioner and Attorney Richard Boykin who will discuss The Power of Diversity.

Invited companies and agencies include: Ameren Illinois, Com Ed, Nicor Gas, British Petroleum, Kraft Foods, Illinois American Water Company, the Par-A-Dice Hotel, the city of Peoria, the city of Decatur, Illinois Casino Gaming Association, the University of Illinois, Illinois State University, North Western University, AT & T, Country Financial, Rivers Casino, the Department of Corrections, the Illinois Tollway, Central Management Services, Illinois Department of Transportation, the Capital Development Board, and the Department of Human Services.

A Welcome Reception follows with live entertainment and networking opportunities. This event will be highlighted by a special award presentation to Richard J. Marks, Chairman/President Ameren Illinois Company for Outstanding Corporate Partner and a presentation, Tuskegee Next by Stephen Davis, President the Will Group. The Mission of Tuskegee Next is to train and support 100 minority Chicago area youth in obtaining their pilot license by the year 2025.

Famed actor Harry Lennix will be in attendance as a special guest.

His prolific film and television career includes recent roles in Warner Brothers Man of Steel and the hit TV show The BlackList. He has also had leading roles in Ray, the Matrix: Reloaded, the Five Heart Beats, the CW’s Emily Owens, M.D, Fox’s Dollhouse, HBO’s Little Britain as well as the critically acclaimed series, 24 as Walid Al-Rezani.

Other celebrity guests include J. Alexander Martin, one of the co-owners of FUBU and owner of A Fashion Mind.

The conference continues on Thursday, August 13th with Breakfast, followed by nine workshops/panels and a Networking Luncheon. Governor Bruce Rauner and other invited guest will kick off the morning session. Other speakers include Melvin Williams, President Nicor Gas; Ron Pate, Senior Vice President Operations & Technical Services, Ameren Illinois; Kevin Brookins, Senior Vice President of Strategies and Administration Com Ed; Jim Schultz, Director Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity; Tom Tyrell, Executive Director Central Management Services; and Randall S. Blankenhorn, Secretary Illinois Department of Transportation, to name a few.

The CEO Roundtable with former nightly host of Fox 32’s newscast, Robin Robinson, includes four CEOs giving their insight on what it takes to succeed in business.

The Energy Panel has some of the foremost Presidents, CEO’s, and top executives in the industry including Ameren Illinois, ComEd, Nicor Gas, and People’s Gas. Other workshops include: a Telecommunication Panel with AT & T and Comcast; the Chamber’s first ever Black Media Panel hosted by Charles Thomas, Political Editor ABC Channel 7 Chicago will talk about the importance of strengthening Black Media with leading executives from television, radio, and newspaper including the Chicago Crusader, the Chicago Defender, and TBT News;

Procurement Opportunities with State Agencies; Information Technology; Construction and Bonding with IDOT, the Illinois Tollway, and the Capital Development Board; International Trade with information on getting ready to do business globally; and how to get positioned for the opportunities in Health Care.

The convention concludes with an elegant Awards Gala Thursday evening from 6:30 PM – 9:00 PM recognizing businesses and corporations for their outstanding contributions and success. The keynote speaker for the event is Lamman Rucker, an American Actor best known for his roles as T. Marshall Travers on the CBS soap opera As the World Turns, Will Brown on Tyler Perry’s TBS sitcom Meet the Browns, and Troy Jackson in Why Did I Get Married.
